1. Are we spreading too thin?
   - L1 still has room to grow
   - What about optimizing current location first?
   - Extended hours? Better marketing?
   - "Why open a second when we haven't maxed the first?"

2. Timing worry
   - Economy feels uncertain
   - Interest rates high
   - What if recession hits right after we open?

3. Quality control
   - We can't be in two places at once
   - Will L2 maintain our standards?
   - What if bad L2 experience hurts L1 reputation?

4. Lifestyle
   - Just got to a good place with work/life balance
   - Baby on the way (!!!)
   - Is this the right time personally?

MY RESPONSES/COUNTERPOINTS:

1. On optimization vs expansion:
   - L1 doing well but capped by location size
   - Lunch rush we turn people away
   - Growth requires new capacity
   - "Don't leave market opportunity for competitors"

2. On economic timing:
   - Never perfect time
   - Coffee is recession-resistant (people trade down from $7 to $5, not from $5 to $0)
   - Being established before recession = better than starting during

3. On quality:
   - Hire/train manager now while we have bandwidth
   - Systems and checklists exist
   - Start with soft launch, limited hours
   - We build team, not just location

4. On lifestyle:
   - Fair point
   - Maybe delay 6 months?
   - Could bring on investor to reduce our operational burden?

SARAH'S CONDITIONS FOR MOVING FORWARD:

1. Hire full-time manager BEFORE opening L2
2. Have 6 months operating capital in reserve
3. No personal guarantee on lease if possible
4. Phased opening, not big bang
5. Written commitment: if not profitable in 18 months, we close

I agreed to all five. Wrote them down.

ALTERNATIVE DISCUSSED: Franchising

Sarah: "What if we franchise instead of open ourselves?"
Me: Too early, brand not established enough
Her: Could license to qualified operator?
Me: Lose too much control

Decided: Not now, maybe in 5 years if we have 4+ locations

DECISION:
Proceeding with exploration, not committed yet.
Need full financial model and location research.
Will revisit in 4-6 weeks with data.

PERSONAL NOTE:
Sarah is nervous but supportive. Need to make sure I'm really listening to her concerns, not just "handling" them. Partnership = partnership.

She made a good point: "Success isn't just revenue. It's also us not hating our lives."

Gotta remember that.
